This is the time of year when people begin to really feel stressed: holidays are approaching, bills are piling up and the pressure is on at work to get major projects completed before the start of the new year. It’s common knowledge that stress follows us, be it at home or to work, we struggle to compartmentalize it. The great news is that stress is manageable; you have the ability to control it but in order to do so, it’s vital to have a personal stress management strategy.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach for stress management as it varies from person to person. For starters, focus on what you could do now—today—to minimize and manage your stress. The following recommendations offer ways to create a stress management strategy:

Evaluate how you currently manage stress. Does anything work that you currently do?.

Identify your stress triggers, as well as when and how they appear.

Make a conscious commitment to improving your stress management practices.

Stay aware of the stress in your life and revise plan as needed.

To be in control of our stress, we have to acknowledge it is there. It is the first step to learning how to manage it. Once your stress management strategy is formulated the small and large stresses in your work and personal life may feel less burdensome.

    Remember: don’t stress about it.
